How do I measure my air rifle group size?
Photograph your target from under a metre away and Pellet's AI finds each pellet hole and measures the group spread in millimetres and MRAD — no tape measure or scoring gauge needed. It takes its scale from references printed on the target itself, such as a grid or ruler, so it works with standard shop-bought targets as well as our own. You get the group size, a performance rating, and the turret correction needed to centre it.
How many clicks do I need to zero my scope?
Pellet works it out from the photograph. It measures how far your group centre sits from your point of aim, converts that offset to an angle at your distance, and reports the correction in millimetres, MRAD and turret clicks — elevation and windage separately, with the direction. If the error is smaller than a single click it tells you that too, so you do not chase an adjustment that would move your point of impact further than the error itself.
Does Pellet explain why a group is bad, or just measure it?
It reads the shape as well as the size. A group that strings vertically points somewhere different from one that scatters evenly or throws a single flier, and Pellet writes that up in plain English alongside the measurement — for example flagging vertical stringing as likely velocity drift across a PCP fill rather than anything you did wrong. The number tells you how you shot; the shape tells you what to change.
How do I find the best pellet for my air rifle?
Every barrel prefers a different pellet, so the only reliable way is to shoot several pellets and compare the group sizes. Pellet measures each group automatically and ranks your pellets by average group size, so you can see which weight, head size and brand your rifle shoots tightest — backed by data, not guesswork.
Does weather affect air rifle accuracy?
Yes. Wind, temperature, air pressure and humidity all change where a light pellet lands, especially at longer range. Pellet logs all of these automatically at the start of every session and calculates the wind angle relative to your shot, so you can see exactly which conditions produce your best and worst groups.
What is a good air rifle group size at 25 and 50 yards?
As a rough guide at 50 yards: under 15 mm is excellent, 15–25 mm is very good, 25–40 mm is good, 40–50 mm is competent and 60 mm or more suggests there's room to improve. Pellet rates every group against these benchmarks automatically so you always know where you stand.
Why does the pellet lot number matter?
Pellets vary slightly from batch to batch, and a new lot can shoot differently even with the same product. Pellet reads the lot number from a photo of the tin base and tracks performance by batch, so you can spot when a new tin changes your grouping and stock up on a lot that shoots well.
